There’s nothing like, Sunday afternoons on a cold winter’s day in Melbourne...

Especially when you are checking into Yering Gorge Cottages in the Yarra Valley, for a quick re-charge and getaway.

The mist is hanging in the trees behind the cottages, the air is fresh, and we can hear nothing but birds. Our cottage is warm and welcoming, and the wood fire is ready to be lit. A bottle of wine is ready to go and we drop our bags and head straight out for a quick walk before it’s gets dark.
We head down to the river... the Yarra River actually, as the property is on 3 km of river frontage, we walk along the bush tracks, hoping to see a wombat. No wombats today, but the Eastern Grey Kangaroos are everywhere and certainly making up for no wombat sightings. Most of the Kangaroo’s had joey’s in their pouches, which are still fascinating, and we find we don’t get far on our walk, as we are enthralled with the wildlife.
We settle into our cottage, open the wine and talk about how a change of scenery in just two hours, has lifted our mood and spirits. Simple life pleasures, remind us how lucky we are and what a beautiful country we live in, that within 90 min of Melbourne, we have these incredible experiences, just waiting for us to explore and enjoy.

I was excited to be up for sunrise, hoping that the fog would have rolled in overnight, and it would be all misty and romantic, instead it was a beautiful clear morning, and I could see the hot air balloons bobbing in the distant sky.
Our complimentary breakfast hamper with all local produce from granola to teas and sourdough bread & preserves, was thoroughly enjoyed. To ensure that we made the most of our Monday morning and what a better way to start the week, a quick soak in the oversized tub with L’Occitane products there for us to enjoy.
Reluctantly, we leave our cottage and say good-bye, only to guarantee that we will be back, soon, for another stay… but the wineries are calling, and so is the long lunch around an open fire with good friends, before we head back home, and feel like we have been away for a week.
